100% Soular

Hotel Terrestre, the latest addition to Grupo Habita’s family of lifestyle hotels, is a multi-sensorial invitation for visitors to connect with nature. Intimately situated between the ocean and mountains of
Puerto Escondido, Terrestre takes the experience of sustainable tourism into new territory.

Operating completely off the grid using 100% solar power – guests are encouraged to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature, synchronising their day with the cycle of the sun. The property’s
sustainable ethos and commitment to providing a sanctuary of rest and relaxation makes it an ideal getaway for rejuvenation and soaking in one’s surroundings through sophisticated simplicity.

Architect Alberto Kalach and his team at Taller de Arquitectura X (TAX) took this vision and translated it into an idyllic contemporary oasis constructed entirely of locally sourced materials. The property features cooling methods achieved through innovative building techniques rather than through air conditioning.

The retreat features fourteen villas, a standalone open-air restaurant, a communal circular pool for treatments, a long swimming lane, and a striking hexagonal spa that contains a chilled water bathtub, steam, shower, and outdoor shower.

Each of Terrestre’s fourteen villas has its own private pool and is designed around an earthy palette of colors and textures. Earth, wood, brick, and concrete are delicately combined with clay and sand to immerse visitors in a unique spatial experience, where nature and architecture interact almost seamlessly.

The furniture, custom-designed by renowned Mexican architect and designer Oscar Hagerman, further enhances this one-of-a-kind sensorial atmosphere. The villas’ interior spaces merge harmoniously with the
outside areas through a series of slatted wooden doors and windows that open to lush private gardens and terraces, while framing the breathtaking mountain views. In addition, each villa has its own outdoor bathroom and a terrace equipped with hammocks, lounge areas, and a private pool that stretches out towards the Pacific Ocean. All these amenities are produced by local hands and are infused with the ancient and mystical scent of copal.

Terrestre’s signature décor is inspired by an intimate dialogue with its natural surroundings. From its overall architectural statement, and down to the smallest detail, the design blends in a uniquely respectful way with the site’s marine landscape. Thus, water, flora, light, and air become intrinsic elements of Terrestre’s groundbreaking design.

In addition to these amenities, each villa comes with a wireless speaker and free Wi-Fi access.

Terrestre’s restaurant offers a selection of both Mexican and Mediterranean dishes made from local produce. The drinks menu includes a curated selection of refreshing cocktails, fine wines, and non-alcoholic options.

Located in Puerto Escondido—one of the crown jewels of Mexico’s tourist destinations—Terrestre is surrounded by an endless array of both natural and cultural wonders. In addition to its pristine beaches, Puerto Escondido offers visitors the perfect opportunity to experience the best of Oaxaca’s rich heritage—from impressive archeological sites and heart-stopping landscapes to its world-famous cuisine and handicrafts.

Terrestre is situated alongside cultural spaces such as Casa Wabi, a sprawling compound with a Tadao Ando–designed center that hosts artist residencies and exhibitions; a ceramic workshop space with a 22-meter-tall chimney designed by TAX / Alberto Kalach; and a permanent large-scale outdoor art installation by Mexican artist Bosco Sodi.

Nearby are also destination restaurants like Kakurega Omakase (also designed by Kalach) and small-batch mezcalerias like Cobarde. Outdoors, there are spots for activities like surfing, bird watching, meditating, hiking, horseback riding and bioluminescence.
